Overseas property buyers are increasingly moving to Italy in order to improve their quality of life, according to a new study.
NatWest recent Quality of Life Index found that the country was rated very highly by expats and placed second only to Portugal in the Europe.
The top 10 countries are
1. Canada
2. New Zealand
3. Portugal
4. Italy
5. France
6. Sweden
7. Spain
8. Norway
9. Singapore
10. UAE
The study found that people in Italy tended to enjoy a good quality of public services, housing, amenities, climate and healthcare provision. Besides, Italy is said to offer a range of cultural attractions and recreational facilities. The research also showed that most expats believed their lives had changed for the better and the expatriates are healthier, wealthier and happier after the move.
Research by the Academy of Healthy Ageing showed that people in Italy tended to enjoy a superior diet which in turn contributed to a longer life expectancy. ShelterOffshore.com has recently flagged Italy as a good destination for those who wish to spend their retirement overseas. The website stated that people in Italy also enjoy a "magnificent" climate, reasonable living costs and no visa restrictions.
This comes after the news that Paul Collins of BuyAssociation has stated that the number of enquiries it has received from prospective expats has gone up by seven per cent in the last year.
